Quality care is a current hot topic in healthcare. Many organizations are focusing on providing quality care, based upon the patient’s needs and wants, which does not always align with evidence-based medicine. Assume the role of a manager within a hospital. A patient’s family is upset about the treatment protocol being followed. After completing online research the family feels that a different direction is the better bet. The protocol set up by the physician is covered by the patient’s managed care plan, but the family’s choice is not.

Instructions:

• Consider the preparation process for an upcoming meeting with the family of the patient.
• Describe how you would address the family’s concerns of the physician’s care plan.
• Explain, using the patient’s insurance coverage, how you could encourage the family members to follow the physician’s recommendations.
