Bridge Between Speech Perception and the Human Brain

The Bridge Between Speech Perception and the Human Brain
Speech perception is the way we hear, understand, and interpret things. Although there
variability problems due to perceptual constancy, speech is easily perceived. The brain is divided
by the left hemisphere and a right hemisphere which is then broken down into four lobes frontal
lobe, parietal lobe, occipital lobe, and temporal lobe. The brain processes neural responses which
represents basic units of speech such as phonemes and phonetic features that connects with
electrode responses. By applying the top down and bottom up process, this paper will talk about
the physiological and psychological foundations of speech perception and spoken word
recognition by examining Broca’s Aphasia and Wernicke’s Aphasia.
